Hailed as one of the breakthrough talents of the past year California's Brett Amory literally makes art of streets. Though in contrast with so many of his peers, it's the human elements of his painting that carry the work's emotion. The young artist's Waiting series features everyday members of the public doing just that. But the pieces are painted in such evocative style that they're comparable with the best of west coast culture, from John Steinbeck's pre-war literature to Mike Mills' modern-era music promos. Simultaneously both soothing and troubling, Brett Amory is a huge talent already making subtle, complex artwork.
