Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1961, Catunda is one of the celebrated 80s generation of Brazilian painters along with Beatriz Milhazes, Ernesto Neto, Adriana Varejao and Iran do Espirito Santo. Early on in her career Catunda developed her unique approach merging painting, collage and sculpture in her work, exploring what she calls 'poetics of softness'.
