For the past 30 years, Terry Winters has occupied the same New York studio since his very first exhibition. A painter, draftsman, and printmaker, Winters began exhibiting in New York in 1977 after his graduation from Pratt Institute in 1971. While his early paintings possess a minimalism influenced by Brice Marden, his work evolved to depict organic shapes and abstracted images of botanicals, and schematic references to scientific processes. Although Wintersââ¬â¢ work has become more complex over time, his process has remained the sameââ¬âsince the beginning, he has collected images and assembled collages of references to prepare ideas for his paintings. These collages reveal unforeseen connections between found images, which Winters likens to a ââ¬Åreadymadeââ¬Â that he strives to perfect.
