BASK When It Rains It Pours - Standard Edition Edition Size: 75 11 x 26 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper We are excited to welcome back 1xRUN regular BASK . About this time last year BASK was approached by the team putting together Iron Man III for creating a body of work that was installed into Tony Starks' (Iron Man for the uninitiated) house in the film! We are extremely happy to showcase this edition of When It Rains It Pours a massive piece which was featured in Iron Man Tony Stark's home in the film, as well as a custom Iron Man 3 Limited Edition Print - Available HERE that created by BASK during the set design and filming of the movie. "Last June, my friend Susie Pilzninski called me saying that Robert Downey Jr. and the production team wanted to use a painting that I did in the next Iron Man film. This was the piece, my Morton Salt girl with a massive bomb falling down on her. The original had been sold for a while-- and was much too small anyways-- so I recreated it to their size specification of 5ft wide and 13ft tall. Along with this piece they asked me if I’d be interested in doing more work for the Mandarin’s lair a few months later when they were shooting in Miami. I of course said yes and ended up doing 13 more massive paintings and some set design for them." - BASK "Bask quickly began to notice similarities between the communistic iconic propaganda from his youth and the consumer advertising of his teens. He soon discovered that they were simply, two sides of the same coin. Each vying for our short-lived attention spans, all the while selling us (or telling us?) anything and everything from Marxism to McDonalds. Seeking conspiracies -and finding them embedded in the popular iconography of the mass media, Bask began painting bold, media critical broadsides to assuage his fear of being manipulated. A fear cultivated in a repressive regime, had now returned, but to the most unlikely and safest of places- The American living room. The artist’s richly textural work imbue his “anti-iconic,” sometimes satirical worldview with an undercurrent of dark emotion. His canvases are the city’s flotsam and jetsam of industrial and consumer decay. Combining his graphic skill with his trademark multi-layered applications, Bask builds up the surface only to break down the image. “My art is a type of deconstruction,” says Bask, “I try to focus on the imperfection of things, rather then their unachievable perfection.” - via KnownasBASK.com

Hand-Painted Multiples

Dimension (x,y,z): N/A
Original Price: 400.00 USD
Run: 30

BASK When It Rains It Pours - Hand-Painted Multiples Edition Size: 30 13.25 x 36 x 2 Inches Mixed Media on Found Wood $ 400.00 "I've had the idea to make a multi level version of this piece for a while now. I wanted to raise the bar even further by doing multiple versions of this concept instead of just one. I first did version of this painting back in 2004 as a gift for a close friend of mine. And most recently/notably I was commissioned by Robert Downey Jr. to recreate a 15ft tall version for Iron Man 3. But in between those, I've done several versions that always present this piece in a new and original way. This release is a direct example of that. I wanted to dissect the elements and create a piece that is brought together layer by layer, level by level." My assistant and I have been working 10 hour days for the past 10 days getting these built, painted and assembled. The materials used were fence posts, plywood cut down to size and worked over with latex, enamel, spray-paint and mixed media collage. Every section of this piece was individually painted and processed over 6 time, and the Bomb was processed over 10 times to achieve the smooth but textured look I wanted." - BASK "Bask quickly began to notice similarities between the communistic iconic propaganda from his youth and the consumer advertising of his teens.
