"This piece references Albrecht Dürer's "Betende Hände" (praying hands), an image that has become iconic within the gang/prison culture. Prisoners turn to religion in the desperation brought on by incarceration. The skeletal hands represent the grasp of death that is a common end within the prison system, regardless of the severity of sentencing. The shadow of prison is only mirrored by the shadow of death.
