"These two paintings in particular are nostalgic for me and an homage to my Dad who is Joseph Martinez Sr. I remember in my early teens being introduced to "Cheech & Chong" by my him and loving them from the start, it was just a different type of humor than what I was familiar with. We would watch these films together and my dad would share stories about him and his friends and the shenanigans they got into. I remember seeing rolling papers around and always liked the packaging but never thought to paint on them til long down the line . My dad never encourage me to smoke weed and he actually quit smoking cold turkey after 24yrs the day I started high school and started back up the day I graduated he told me " I can't ask you to do something that I'm not willing to do myself " and that was to not smoke and focus on school, I truly respected him even more for that action. Painting on small surfaces is just a fun challenge for me to see how small I can make the details." - Joseph Martinez
