Lichtenstein completed this project after having begun painting the subject in 1968, but he remembers using this three dimensional print as a prop in the studio, to help him decide the compositional relationship for at least one of his paintings (Lichtenstein, in conversation with Fine, August 11, 1993). According to the artist, impressions were inadvertently stacked together while the ink was still wet, so that only about 50-100 of the edition of 300 were actually able to be released.
