Roe Ethridge has described himself as being "in the image service industry." Working as both a fine art photographer and as a commercial photographer with editorial assignments, his images tread the fine line between the two normally disparate arenas of fine art photographs and stock imagery. In doing so Ethridge reveals the mutability of the image, the possibility of images taking on different meanings in different times and contexts. Characterised by a subtle sense of humour and a keen intelligence, Ethridge's photography feels both familiar and quietly uncanny, and invites a re-consideration of our unconscious understanding of the visual world.
Roe Ethridge was born in Miami, Flordia in 1969. He lives and works in New York.
