Fabio Schirru (Cagliari, 1985), who goes by the name of Tellas, was born and raised on the beautiful island of Sardinia. After he obtained a degree in visual arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna he started painting monumental nature inspired murals in various cities around the world. For the exhibition This quiet, harsh land Tellas returned to his roots. Inspired by the rugged and savage landscape of Sardinia he developed a new body of works consisting mostly of drawings on paper and paintings on canvas.
In a very poetic manner Tellas' drawings explore the unspoiled landscapes of his native land through the use of abstracted nature based motifs. His heavy usage of line-work in an often black and white colour scheme is minimalistic yet very detailed. The endless repetition of individual elements evoke a sense of vastness of our environment and at the same time generate a state of calmness.
